You regain consciousness, yet all is dark. Soon after, a black bag is removed from your head and you find yourself in a large boardroom at the top floor of some tower overlooking Kingsmouth. In the far chair at the head of a long darkwood table sits a man in a blue suit with orange pinstripes. He looks to be about 40 and a face made for scowls. He looks to a man behind him and says “You can’t be serious. *This *is what we are going for as Venture now?”
The man before you sighs. “My apologies, young one. You are new and as such deserve to learn of your blood. I am Mr. Ovidio Urberoaga, a member of one of five clans of which you yourself are now also part. Fortunately for you, you were embraced into the best clan of all. You, young one, are now Ventrue. The Ventrue are natural leaders, schemers, movers, shakers, and all around the ones of the truest potential. Who are the other ones, you ask? We shall get to them soon enough. I wish to update you on things more relevant to you.
“The Ventrue are the officially youngest clan of the five, but certainly not the weakest. By instinct, we control the lesser beasts including humans with abilities we call Animalism and Dominate. I know, I know. I never said we were the most creative at naming. We do what we need to do and make things as precise as possible. Continuing on, our last, but certainly not least capable ability is also the simplest to describe and as such will be gotten out of the way.” The man’s eyes sparkles as he says “Resilience. Resilience allows us to ignore the harm from the lesser clans by mitigating the damage. Don’t worry, young one, you can be taught, but this is also something more… innate for you.
“The other two abilities allow you to lead through force as needed. Animalism gives you power of creatures including anything with fur, scales, or feathers. The minds of insects are too primitive for us, though there is rumor of some who can manage this - but that is another topic for another time. Advanced Animalism allows you to even control the beast inside your skin as we speak - yes, I know of it, we all have it, young one. Worry not. I’m sure your Sire will teach you properly - you do have a Sire, don’t you?
My personal favorite discipline we possess is known as Dominate. It is the ability to look into the minds of those we choose and directly force them to do our bidding. This is the primary tool we wield against the mortals of the city. With measured usage, you can ensure you are always on top, but do be careful. Overuse is a dangerous thing and poor wording can turn into your undoing.”
The man named Ovidio lets that sink in a bit then continues. “With that, allow me to tell you of our current affairs in the Kindred society. Our current Priscus is a Kindred known as Mr. Edwin Lawrence. He’s a subtle player of the field and currently at odds with our Prince - a Kindred known as Mr. Baptiste St. Yves, who is also Ventrue. You will notice a pattern with our Clan and leadership roles. It comes… Naturally to us even without the usage of our Disciplines. At current,y we have no Whip, a man who steers our Clan, and frankly I pity the poor bastard who becomes it. It’s hard enough to manage a group of monsters, but those with god complexes… Well… In due fairness, we deserve it but it does come with drawbacks. I must warn you, young one, to always keep in touch with something that keeps you firmly grasped. Our curse is a nasty one. As we lose our humanity, we quickly fall prey to it. Our grasp on humanity slips hard for us, and we are as such quick to torpor.
Now, about those other Clans. The other four in no particular order are the Daeva, Nosferatu, Mekhet, and Gangrel. The Daeva are deviants who crave the flesh they lost when they were embraced. As such, they are in a perpetual tragedy of near lustful desires of humans. They are to be pitied in that regard, but be warned. As we have control of the mind, they wield control of the heart - and they WILL use that control if need be. The Nosferatu are physical embodiments of what we all are on the inside. Hideous, creepy, disturbing, and borderline inhuman, they have a tougher time with interacting with humans. They are strong, fierce, and masters of terror. It is foolish to cross them without some care. Mekhet are secret keepers and spies. They are by nature unduly haughty because of their ability to gain the insight of those around them without those people knowing. Fortunately, if they prove too resistant, one should never be above a little... force of personality, hm? They are brilliant at hiding and seeking, all the same. Worthy pawns, if ever. Keep them close, but keep them out your thoughts.
I saved the last as our interactions are… complex. You see, we of the Ventrue come from a shared ancestor of the Gangrel. As such, there is a bit of a rivalry betwixt our clans. The Gangrel are feral, bestial, and embrace the Beast within every bit as much as we embrace humanity. As we dominate the minds of others, they instead control their bodies through chaotic means known as Protean. They can shift into beasts or gain dangerously sharp claws. They are more apt to use brute force when precision is most prudent. Be wary of the Gangrel, young one - and do not let them fool you. Their primitive instincts do not mean they are stupid. Now, then, if you’ve questions, contact me. Until then…”
Without so much as a warning or chance to response, the black hood is over your head, and you awaken to find yourself on a random bus stop with enough fare to go anywhere in the city.
